While there are numerous settlements around the Abacos, the more central
locations of Elbow Cay (including Hope Town ), Guana Cay , Green Turtle Cay ,
Lubbers Quarters , Man of War Cay , Marsh Harbour and Treasure Cay make up
the hub of the Abacos. The Abaco islands are full of places for boat rentals and golf cart
rentals to enable you to explore Abaco by both land and sea. There are also
several dive shops, bike rental shops and other specialty shopping stores and boutiques to
suit almost every shopping need from t-shirts to gold. So, there's no excuse for not having a
way to get around - rent a golf cart or a boat or a bike to make the most of Abaco. But be sure
to rent that boat or golf cart before your trip, especially in the busier seasons.
Most every cay in the Abacos has one or more restaurants for your dining pleasure
and several are on the water and accessible directly by boat - either by docking or
anchoring just off the beautiful Abaco beaches. While staying at one Abaco location, you can
easily make day trip to another cay and set up a golf cart rental or bicycle rental for a day or a
half day to explore the cay to it's fullest with shopping, exploring or trying out that interesting
Abaco restaurant you've just heard about.
For example, if you're visiting Treasure Cay for a while in an Abaco rental boat or even your
own boat, take a short 2.5 mile golf cart rental from the Treasure Cay settlement up to Abaco
Ceramics where you will not be disappointed. Or, right there in the Treasure Cay settlement
try Cafe la Florence for a loaf of fresh bread or one of their world famous cinnamon buns.
You will most surely bring back some treasure of your own! Or take a golf cart rental at
Guana Cay to eat lunch at a couple of the best places Abaco has to offer at Nippers or
Grabbers, and then explore the hills of Guana Cay and enjoy the breathtaking views from the
road of the Atlantic on one side and the Sea of Abaco on the other. You can usually always
find Barefoot Man CD's at Nippers but a couple times a years he's usually there in a live
concert! Further on to the southern part of Abaco, while visiting Elbow Cay for the day, take a
golf cart rental to see the view from the Abaco Inn and then on to see Tahiti Beach! Back up
towards the north, visit Green Turtle Cay for the day . . . dock your rental boat in New
Plymouth then take a golf cart rental up to further explore the other end of the cay and maybe
even stop in to see if Brendal is in at Brendal's Dive Shop! Before your departure, take in the
unique Abaco settlement of New Plymouth and explore some history, do a little shopping or
just relax at one of several local Green Turtle Cay adult beverage relaxation facilities!
There are several Bahamas Public Holidays that are observed around the Abacos. The
dates are included in a small "window" on this page. You'll typically find that many
businesses around the Abacos are closed these particular days.
Well, we're running out of room here but get creative during your trip to Abaco and
make the most of each visit - enjoy your days of Abaco life. If you can't take it all in,
no worries Mon . . . you'll be back to Abaco soon! So, grab your partner, sandals or flip flops,
swimsuit and a t-shirt and come on down! Did I mention not to forget to make that
reservation for a golf cart or rental boat?
