Green Turtle Cay
Abaco, The Bahamas
Green Turtle Cay is a small, land
locked island in the Bahamas’ Abaco
Out Islands, in clear eye sight of the
mainland of Great Abaco Island. The
name, Green Turtle Cay, is said to
have originated from the number of
green turtles inhabiting the area.
With only a few hundred full time
residents, Green Turtle Cay is about
3 miles long and 1/2 mile wide in
some places, and features several
great beaches, the quaint settlement
of New Plymouth, a dive shop, boat
rentals, golf cart rentals, vacation
rental agencies and restaurants all
accessible by the Green Turtle Cay
Ferry service from a ferry dock just a
few miles from the Treasure Cay
Airport or by boat. There are a few
marinas around Green Turtle Cay
and several outstanding areas for
anchorage. There’s plenty to do on
Green Turtle Cay, an 18th century
settlement, even in a 1/2 day
excursion including the shopping
around New Plymouth and the Alton
Lowe art museum. One of the special
annual events for Green Turtle Cay
is the Island Roots Heritage Festival
usually held the first weekend in May
on Friday, Saturday and Sunday and
has enjoyed international attendance
from ages 1 to 100. So c'mon over
